According to the latest statistics from the Ministry of GA, as of the end of September 2022, the number of motor vehicles in the country reached 412 million, of which 315 million were cars; there were 499 million motor vehicle drivers, of which 461 million were car drivers.
In the first three quarters, 17.4 million vehicles were newly registered, of which 6.295 million were newly registered in the third quarter, and the monthly average registration volume was significantly higher than that in the first half of the year. In the first three quarters of 2022, 26.21 million motor vehicles were newly registered nationwide, including 17.4 million automobiles. Affected by factors such as the epidemic, the number of new automobile registrations in the first half of this year was lower than the same period last year. With the resumption of work and production in the automobile industry and the gradual recovery of the automobile consumer market, the number of new automobile registrations has exceeded 2 million for three consecutive months since July. In the third quarter, the number of new registrations of automobiles reached 6.295 million, and the monthly average of new registrations reached 2.098 million, significantly higher than the monthly average of 1.851 million in the first half of the year. Compared with the number of new vehicle registrations in the third quarter of 2021, this year’s third quarter increased by 254,000 vehicles, exceeding the same period last year.
The number of new energy vehicles reached 11.49 million, and 3.713 million were newly registered in the first three quarters. As of the end of September, the number of new energy vehicles in the country reached 11.49 million, accounting for 3.65% of the total number of vehicles. Among them, there are 9.26 million pure electric vehicles, accounting for 80.56% of the total number of new energy vehicles. In the first three quarters of 2022, 3.713 million new energy vehicles were newly registered across the country, an increase of 1.842 million or 98.48% year-on-year, accounting for 21.34% of the new registration of vehicles. In the third quarter of this year, 1.495 million new energy vehicles were newly registered, and the monthly average of 498,000 new registrations was significantly higher than the monthly average of 370,000 in the first half of the year.
The second-hand car market remained active in the first three quarters, with 16.4 million motor vehicle transfer registrations. In the first three quarters of 2022, local GA traffic control departments handled a total of 16.4 million motor vehicle transfer registrations (transaction transfers), of which 15.35 million were motor vehicle transfer registrations, accounting for 93.55%. In the first three quarters of this year, the ratio of car transfer registrations to new car registrations reached 1:1.13, a marked increase from 1:1.24 in the same period last year. In recent years, the Ministry of GA, together with the Ministry of Commerce and other departments, has promoted the implementation of reform measures to facilitate the registration of second-hand car transactions in different places, which has better promoted the circulation of second-hand cars.
There are more than 1 million cars in 82 cities, and more than 3 million in 21 cities including Beijing, Chengdu and Chongqing. As of the end of September, 82 cities across the country had more than 1 million cars, an increase of 6 cities over the same period last year, 38 cities with more than 2 million cars, and 21 cities with more than 3 million cars. Beijing has more than 6 million vehicles, Chengdu and Chongqing have more than 5 million vehicles, and Suzhou, Shanghai, Zhengzhou, Xi’an and Wuhan have more than 4 million vehicles.
The number of motor vehicle drivers reached 499 million, and the number of newly licensed drivers in the first three quarters was 23.92 million. The number of motor vehicle drivers in the country reached 499 million, of which 461 million were car drivers, accounting for 92.46% of the total number of drivers. In the first three quarters of 2022, there were 23.92 million newly licensed drivers nationwide, a decrease of 2.799 million or 10.48% from the same period last year. The “Regulations on the Application and Use of Motor Vehicle Driving Licenses” (Order No. 162 of the Ministry of GA), which came into effect on April 1 this year, newly added the “light towing trailer” permitted driving type (C6), and has now obtained the C6 permitted driving type driver. The number of 346,000 people can better meet the needs of the masses to drive small travel trailers and promote the development of new forms of RV tourism.
67.99 million vehicle and driver’s license transactions were processed online. In the first three quarters of 2022, in order to do a good job of normalizing epidemic prevention and control, local GA traffic control departments actively promote the online operation of traffic control services such as replacement of licenses “without leaving home”. There were 67.99 million online transactions across the country, including the replacement of driver’s licenses and the issuance of temporary license plates.
